Solar Bulb Out Of One Liter Water And Bleach

Turn your soda bottle into a solar bulb! This solar bulb gave light to poor people of Sitio Maligaya, San Pedro, Laguna in Philippines. Read on.

A good stumbler friend of mine sent me a link of a video showing how a softdrink bottle could turn into a solar bulb using just water and bleach. It's amazing to see such creation where thousands of poor people benefited from this, it gave light to their dark homes.

A man they named, Solar Demi, came up with the idea where he used soda bottles, purified water and some chlorine or bleach, to make a

solar bulb as bright as an electric bulb with 55 watts. The chlorine or bleach keeps the water from forming molds so the solution can last up to five years. To keep the water clear for refraction, he used purified or distilled water. He just fills the soda bottle
with purified water and some bleach and installs it on the roof. They call it, "One Liter of Light". This one liter of light brightened up their homes and spelled huge savings on electricity. The residents can now avoid using candles and kerosene lamps which poses danger and the possibility of causing fire.

Now this idea is actively being promoted by MyShelter Foundation Inc. under its “Isang Litrong Liwanag–The Solar Bottle Bulb Project”, which was launched in San Pedro, Laguna province early this year.

We can help MyShelter Foundation bring light to more Filipinos, just check out their website, ISANG LITRONG LIWANAG.

I'm happy to know that a Filipino was able to create an amazing invention such as this. I'm proud to be a Filipino!
