Possible Ways We Can Contribute To Stop Global Warming

Global warming is becoming a serious concern to our environment. Is there a way to stop it?

GLOBAL WARMING is basically the increase in an average temperature of the earth's atmosphere and its oceans, especially a sustained increase sufficient to cause climate change. The increased volumes of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases released by the burning of fossil fuels, land clearing, agriculture, and other human activities, are believed to be the primary sources of the global warming that has occurred over the past years. It is becoming a serious concern to our environment.

We've been hearing news all over the world about global warming and we are actually experiencing the effects of it now. Some countries are experiencing intense heat and peculiar climate changes and this is alarming. Can we stop global warming? Scientists believe we can actually stop or at least slow global warming.

Here are some ways we can contribute:

PROTECT AND CONSERVE FORESTS

Forests play a critical role in global warming, they store carbon. There is about 20% carbon dioxide emission each year when forests are burned or cut down, their stored carbon is released into atmosphere-deforestation thus affecting global warming.

PLANT A TREE

A single tree will absorb one ton of carbon dioxide over its lifetime.Trees produce the air that we breathe in.Shade provided by trees can also reduce your air conditioning bill by 10-15%, a good way of power saving. But when trees are being cut down and burnt for some other uses, oxygen is being released into the atmosphere thus, increasing global warming. There are many debates as to whether planting trees are good or bad for global warming, but majority agreed on the positive effect of it.

REGULAR MAINTENANCE OF YOUR CAR

Carbon dioxide released by cars are contributing to the problems of global warming.Keep your car tuned up, it helps improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions.Drivers have no control over the amount of carbon in the gasoline they buy, but they can control the other two key factors by reducing the number of miles they drive each year and choosing to buy more fuel-efficient vehicles. You can reduce the number of miles you drive, just walk, bike or take the mass transit wherever possible.Avoid just 10 miles of driving every week, it will eliminate about 500 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions a year.

REDUCE WASTE

Most products we buy and use cause greenhouse gas emissions in one way or another. We should minimize our wastes whenever possible. For instance, by taking your lunch in a reusable lunch box instead of a disposable one, you save the energy needed to produce new lunch boxes. We can also recycle our used products at home. You can save 2,400 pounds of carbon dioxide a year by recycling half of the waste your house generates.

REUSE YOUR SHOPPING BAG

When shopping, it saves energy and waste to use a reusable bag instead of accepting a disposable one in each shop.Waste not only discharge carbon dioxide and methane into the atmosphere, it can also pollute the air, groundwater and soil.It takes years to dispose a plastic waste.

DRY CLOTHES USING CLOTHESLINES

Use clothelines instead of a dryer whenever possible. You can save power energy and 700 pounds of carbon dioxide when you air dry your clothes for 6 months out of the year.
